Nokia PureView 808 | Hands-On | Review | phonedog

Nokia PureView 808, Hands-On, Review, phonedog, news, wallpaper, poster, cover
phonedog, had to say the below, when they went hands on with Nokia 808 PureView in the USA.
Symbian isn't the most popular mobile OS in the States, but Nokia's PureView 808 is an interesting mobile device from the Finnish manufacturer, thanks to the astounding 41-megapixel camera. It offers a 1.3 GHz single-core processor, 4-inch AMOLED display (360x640 pixels), a front-facing camera, 1,400 mAh battery, and a white housing. The PureView 808's key feature is obviously the camera, and as you would expect, it's pretty impressive.
Well, symbian has impovred alot in just 2-1 years, but the sad part nokia is going to develop symbian till 2016. Symbian supports HDMI, USB on the GO. And now 41 MP camera, which even mobile processor limit to 20Mp, but nokia put a 41 MP camera in Nokia 808 Pureview. Which no Mobile OS supports for now. But nokia is working on a windows phone Pureview, some say its set for 2013 start.

Nokia 808 PureView camera: 10 hidden secrets | noknok

Nokia 808 PureView, camera, 10 hidden, secrets, noknok, news, tech, nokia, wallpaper, poster, cover, news

Well noknok, have posted a nice post about the Nokia 808 PureView camera 10 hidden secrets. Nokia 808 PureView, is a 41Mp Camera , running on Nokia Belle (symbian) . Its 1st set to come out in Russia and India in May 2012

PureView Pro imaging technology ditches the old scaling/interpolation model of digital and optical zoom used in pretty much all smartphones. Usually the lens elements move back and forth to magnify the field.

Instead Nokia has limited the digital zoom to just 2x to avoid compromising images, and ditched upscaling altogether, and when you zoom you’re only selecting the relevant part of the sensor so that the image in the zoom is always the image you want.

More processing power
Why didn’t the Nokia 808 PureView arrive sooner? Well, only now has the processing power been developed. The most powerful chipsets have a limit of 20Mpix of image processing capability. The Nokia 808 PureView does double that. For video the amount of pixels handled is over 1 billion per second, amounting to 16x oversampling. That’s 16x greater than most other smartphones.

More detail even in low light conditions
Pixel oversampling combines many pixels to form one super pixel. When this happens you filter away all the visual noise. In low light conditions the speckled look you often get in smartphone pictures is greatly reduced. In good light it is non-existent.

Faster shutter speeds than your old smartphone camera
Even at maximum zoom 5.4 times more light reaches the Nokia PureView sensor than an equivalent optical-zoom digital camera. Because of this you get faster shutter speeds. A conventional camera set to ISO 100 will have a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second. The Nokia 808 PureView uses up just 1/180th of a second in the same conditions.

Better flash
The faster shutter speed reduces any visual noise likely to appear in pictures when using zoom. According to Nokia, it also means that the Nokia 808PureView’s flash range is maintained at all levels of zoom, rather than being reduced as the zoom range increases.

Touch Autofocus

In the Creative Shooting mode a long touch on the viewfinder brings up a pop-up window giving you the option to select from Automatic or Macro, where close-up focus improves further.

PureView technology works on video too
The same oversampling techniques for photos is also applied to video resulting in footage with no added nastiness, just as much detail as possible.

Silent zoom
A lot of dedicated cameras and camcorders make an annoying sound when zooming. Not the Nokia 808 PureView. Nokia has ensured that the zoom is completely silent when shooting video.

New Slide Zoom
The Nokia 808 PureView introduces a feature called Slide Zoom. A lot of new smartphones use what is called Pinch to Zoom. It works well, but is not so great when trying to take a photo. With Slide Zoom, simply slide your finger up and down to interact. A frame appears that moves in sync with your finger allowing you to preview the frame without committing.

Improved video autofocus
This was an area that needed to be improved, and Nokia has done it. Continuous autofocus in all shooting modes ensures that whatever you’re shooting, the footage will be steady with little to no sign of judder.
